• GCSE ART FINAL PIECES 2015 •

This post is all about my GCSE art work. I thought I'd share some photos of my final pieces so that maybe I can give anyone who is currently in the midst of their Art GCSE a little inspiration - and even just for some of you to see what I have been doing over the past 2 years in this subject.
I am really glad that it's over now. I put so much effort into it that I wasn't able to do much else throughout the last year, at least. I'm extremely happy with how my final outcomes have turned out and I hope you like them!

Project 1 - Final Piece - Natural Forms

The theme we were given for project 1 was 'Natural Forms'. Within this, I explored and looked at shells, flowers, animals and sunsets. I finally decided that for my final piece I wanted to involve both animals and flowers and therefore used watercolour for the deer (and splodges), then adding twigs for the antlers as well as flowers.

Project 2 - Final Piece - Music and Dance

I chose the theme of 'Music and Dance' for project 2. This was a rushed project as I only started it a week before all of my coursework was due in (never, ever do that!!). I did this final piece the day before and therefore I feel it could have been a lot better if more time had been spent on it but I am happy with how it turned out for the little time I had to do this along with my sketchbook. Again, I used watercolour and added sequins to the dress after taking inspiration from several artists.

Externally Set Task - Exam Final Piece - Mixed Media

My exam project was my favourite by far. Choosing the theme of 'Mixed Media', I looked at artists such as Ingrid Dijkers. Her tunnel journals inspired me to create my own. I wanted the book to follow a theme of what I have learned and therefore each page would start with 'Today I Know...' and then a quote in which would inspire how the page was decorated. (This was the messiest project - I took up 4 tables and an extreme amount of floor space in the Art room!)
For the main book I used strong chipboard (it was part of a wardrobe). I then covered it in paper and painted over the top, using ribbon and lace to hold it together after drilling two holes in the side. I had 10 hours to make this and I am extremely proud that I did it in such a short amount of time.

This was page 1 & 2 of the journal. Based around the theme of 'memories', I made my own polaroid-type photos and hung these along the page using string and small pegs. I decorated the page with doilies and other bits and bobs I found in the crafts I already owned.

This page was about 'music'. I created part of a guitar and used real guitar strings. The background was painted and I then used soft pastels to add a worn/vintage effect close to the edges. I trimmed the page with white paper and black card that I made to look like piano keys.

This page was based around coffee and books and therefore, after layering paper for effect, I used a tea bag to make the page look quite old and coffee like. I rubbed some coffee granules into the page for effect as well. Using different types of felt and paper, I created a tier of coffee cups, using felt flowers and other bits + bobs to finish them off.

This page included a quote about both the rain and a rainbow and therefore I tried to merge the true by having a girl holding a multicoloured umbrella. I really love this page and I especially like the flower pattern that I'd painted on using an old sticker sheet as a stencil.

This is my favourite page by far. Based around my family. I created a family tree. I firstly cut the tree out of a cardboard box and then painted and decorated it using different materials. I then used small, printed black and white photos of my family members to stick on to tags and then decorate these, applying them to different areas of the tree. I used book pages as leaves to wrap around the tree and I threaded them onto other pages as you might have previously spotted.

I hope you have enjoyed looking at my work and feel free to take inspiration from any part of it! Hears hoping my hard work pays off when I get my results in August!
